A bottle preform is a partially formed bottle shape made of compostable material that serves as the precursor or starting point for manufacturing plastic bottles. It is essentially a small tube-like structure with a threaded neck and a solid bottom, designed to be heated and stretched to create the final bottle shape.
Bottle preforms are manufactured through a process called injection molding. In this process, biodegradable material pellets, usually made of PET resin, are melted and injected into a preform mold. The mold contains cavities in the shape of the desired preform, including the neck and bottom. The melted material is injected into the mold under high pressure, creating the preform shape. Once the preforms are cooled and solidified, they are ejected from the mold and ready for further processing.
Bottle preforms serve as the starting point for the production of plastic bottles. They are heated and stretched in a process called blow molding to create the final bottle shape. The preform design allows for efficient production and consistent quality control in bottle manufacturing.
